The Impact of Humans on Fish
Fish have always been used by humans. Whether for food, resources, or utensils, fish have been very helpful to humans. Humans have fished for thousands of years because fish are profitable and useful. Recently, the population of fish has gone down tremendously, and that could be due to overfishing. Mark Kurlansky describes fish as extremely vital to humans and all other species on Earth, even if the specimen never comes close to fish. This is because Earth's gigantic food web is very tightly interwoven, meaning all organisms have either direct or indirect connections to other organisms. If one species changes in population even slightly, others will almost always be affected.
